The Morning Show

Who else binge watched The Morning Show?

I, like many others, was drawn to the show because of my obsession with The Office/Steve Carell (and Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Hasan Minhaj, etc). But the show, unlike the office, brought up a lot of serious issues inspiring others to think a little deeper about 'gray areas' of issues.

Sexual Assault, Suicide, Homophobia and other forms of intolerance, cancel culture, mental health, and more. The complexities of these topics are addressed, in some way or another, in this show. It's a binge show, but it is HARD to watch, it is triggering, it is so deeply emotional and confusing, it hits a lot of spots - for me at least.

I found it disturbing, and interesting, the character development of the main antagonist, who sexually assaulted and pressured many women. Some of which who did not make it to where the show currently is due to their struggle since their traumatic events. The fact that he was truly clueless about the unconscious maliciousness of his behavior, and how that behavior changed the lives of so many women in so many ways - and you start to see his gradual realization of the harm that is on his shoulder and his conscious effort to change. And I was extremely....confused. I don't quite know how to put into words all of my feelings on this. I'm looking for advice or the opinions of others. Please reach out and let me know how you reacted to this.

The suicides in the show were very triggering, and so heartbreaking, and so angering.

I did however, absolutely love how the manages to capture the concurrent growth of the characters with their backtracking and mistakes. Making the characters more human, and more like we are in real life. I can go a week or two growing and succeeding and then backtrack at twice the speed in a day. It was hard to watch, but it was so refreshing to see this realism, this true representation of how people truly grow and get through life, without just 'magically' getting better or becoming new people.

I would love to hear more thoughts from others on the show. Please send your true and honest opinions, good or bad, to holly@embarkfoundation.org
