October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Today marks the start of domestic violence awareness month, and as a nonprofit dedicated to survivors - we have lots of great things in store for this month.

To start it off, we will be gathering to watch some spoken word poetry that give power to survivors, and illustrate the impact and importance of bringing awareness to domestic violence. We will first be watching a slam poem by Epiphany, and she is one of many empowered survivors that are using their voices and art to spread awareness about domestic violence and to help others know they are not alone. Please keep an eye on our events page and for reminder emails for the date and time of these events.

Another powerful slam artist survivor is Kelly Mays, who volunteers with a nonprofit similar to ours in that they help domestic violence survivors, called Haven. To read more about her story: https://www.hourdetroit.com/web-exclusive/domestic-violence-survivor-haven/
